Google puts Lyria 3.5 music generation in the Gemini app at no charge

Google has added Lyria 3.5 music generation to the free Gemini app and its API, but the launch announcement gives users no published usage limit.

What happened

Published here

On 4 September 2026 Google released Lyria 3.5, its music generation model, inside the Gemini app and the Gemini API. A user selects or describes a genre, picks vocal or instrumental styles, chooses a short or a longer track, and can start from a new template for anything from background music to a custom birthday track. Google says it is available to all users globally on the web and in the mobile app, and names the other surfaces by audience: Flow Music for artists and AI creatives, AI Studio and Google Vids for developers and technologists. The announcement states no tier, no price and no usage limit. (Google announcement, 4 September 2026)

A capability handed to every tier at a stated price of nothing, with the ceiling left unstated, which is why our Gemini plans table has no row to change. Drawn from Google's announcement of 4 September 2026. Diagram: AI Journey.

Diagram of how Lyria 3.5 is distributed. A request panel holds the whole interface, a genre description and a choice of vocal or instrumental, an arrow leads to Lyria 3.5 returning a finished track, and a second arrow leads to five surfaces: the Gemini app, the Gemini API, AI Studio, Flow Music and Google Vids. A band beneath spans the full width and reads that every tier including the free one gets it at no extra charge. A final panel marks the usage limit as not published, drawn as a measure with a start tick, no end tick and a question mark.

What it means for you

Google put no price in the announcement, so the free reading is ours and not theirs: it says all users on the web and in the app, and our Gemini plans table records a free rung at $0, so a free account should reach this without paying for a music subscription. What Google published nowhere is an allowance. Our plans table is therefore unchanged and stays that way until a limit appears somewhere we can verify it, and that gap is the story here: a feature with no stated cap is a feature whose cap you will meet without warning.
