What it means for you
A subscriber deciding whether to pay for Pro or Ultra now has to weigh a model name that is new to them against a ladder of usage multipliers that has not moved, so the actual question for a reader's bill is still whether four times or twenty times the free usage ceiling covers their week, not which model letter sits behind it.
In more detail
Google’s consumer subscriptions page for Gemini now carries a banner reading “Looking for Gemini 4 Argon? Select AI Pro or AI Ultra below to get access starting today,” a change from the page’s earlier wording that named 3.1 Pro as the headline model for paid tiers. The banner sits above the plan cards, and the cards themselves still list “Access to Gemini 4 Argon” under both the Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra entries, alongside the older line naming access to “our Pro model” and “our Flash model.” The Free tier keeps its existing description of access to “3.6 Flash” and “varying access to 3.1 Pro,” unchanged.
What has not moved is the price ladder underneath the model name. Google AI Plus remains $4.99 a month with twice the free usage limits, Google AI Pro remains $19.99 a month with four times the free usage limits and a one million token context window, and Google AI Ultra still starts at $99.99 a month for five times Pro’s usage ceiling, rising to $199.99 a month for twenty times that ceiling. Flow credits, cloud storage allowances and the rest of the per-tier feature lists on the page also read the same as before.
The practical effect is that Google is using its existing subscription ladder as the distribution channel for a newer model rather than introducing a new tier or a new price point around it. Anyone already paying for Pro or Ultra gets routed to the new model through the plan they already hold, and anyone comparing plans today is still choosing a usage multiplier and a storage allowance, not a separate Gemini 4 Argon price.
The numbers
- Google AI Plus: $4.99 a month, 2x higher usage limits than Free, 200 Google Flow credits.
- Google AI Pro: $19.99 a month, 4x higher usage limits than Free, a one million token context window, 1,000 Flow credits.
- Google AI Ultra, 5x tier: starting at $99.99 a month, 5x higher usage limits than Pro, 10,000 Flow credits.
- Google AI Ultra, 20x tier: $199.99 a month, 20x higher usage limits than Pro, 25,000 Flow credits.
For a reader who already holds a Pro or Ultra seat, this update changes which model answers a prompt, not what that seat costs. The decision that still matters for a monthly bill is the usage multiplier chosen against the free tier, since the newer model is being layered onto the same four tiers rather than priced on its own. Anyone shopping from Free upward is choosing between a $4.99, a $19.99 and a $99.99 or $199.99 entry point exactly as before, now with Gemini 4 Argon attached to the upper two.
