Ninety days, one cell a day

Ninety day status record for ChatGPTOnly the most recent day carries a reading. This site does not yet keep a day by day status history, so the other cells are empty rather than green.
We do not keep a day by day history yet. The filled cell on the right is the reading in the snapshot this page was built from, taken . The empty cells mean no reading was recorded for that day, which is not the same as a day with nothing wrong. This strip fills in as the recorder runs.

How much does ChatGPT Plus cost?

ChatGPT Plus costs $20.00 a month, read from learn.chatgpt.com/docs/pricing on . OpenAI's published list prices for ChatGPT are below, with each limit in the vendor's own wording. A cell reading "Not published" means OpenAI prints no figure for it, which is a fact worth as much as a number.

OpenAI publishes no limits for this plan.

Read from OpenAI's ChatGPT/Codex docs pricing page (learn.chatgpt.com), the only official OpenAI page that served its content to our fetcher on 2026-09-05; openai.com/chatgpt/pricing and help.openai.com returned HTTP 403. That page lists no per-model limits for the Free plan and does not name its models, so those fields are empty rather than guessed.

Limits are the "local messages per five-hour period" table on OpenAI's Codex pricing page; they describe Codex usage drawn from the ChatGPT plan allowance, not general chat message caps. Models listed are the model rows of that table, which is the only official per-plan model list our fetcher could read.

What it means for you

Paying starts at $8.00 a month for Go and runs to $200.00 for Pro (20x).

Four of these plans carry limits OpenAI publishes and two carry none. A tier with no published allowance is a price without a promise; the tiers with stated ranges are the ones you can plan around.

What the OpenAI API costs

List prices per one million tokens, exactly as OpenAI prints them. This is what you pay to send text to the model yourself, which is a different product from the subscription above and is billed by the word rather than by the month.

Input prices only, because every vendor publishes one for every model, so the chart has no holes in it. Output costs more at most models; the table above carries both.

What it means for you

Inside one vendor the spread is the story: GPT-5.6 Luna costs $0.20 per million input tokens and GPT-6 Astra costs $10.00. Choosing the model matters more than choosing the vendor.

A million tokens is roughly three quarters of a million words of English, so a single question costs a fraction of a cent. Bills grow when the same context is sent again and again, which is what an agent or a long conversation does. That is why the cached input column is the one to read before committing to a model here.

Guides to ChatGPT

The questions people ask about ChatGPT, answered in plain English, with the numbers on this page and the sources they came from.

  • Do AI text detectors work, and what does their score mean?

AI text detectors can flag patterns associated with machine-written text, but their score is not proof of authorship. They can miss AI text and accuse human writers. OpenAI withdrew its own classifier for low accuracy, and published research shows paraphrasing can sharply weaken several detection methods. Use a score only as a reason to review evidence.

    Checked

  • How do you use ChatGPT well if you are just starting?

Start ChatGPT with one clear task, provide the needed context and state the form of the answer you want. Check important claims against the cited source, refine the request in the same chat, and begin a new chat when the subject changes. Do not paste confidential material without reviewing your account's data controls.

    Checked

  • How do you write a good AI prompt for ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini?

A good AI prompt names the task, supplies relevant context, states constraints and describes the output you want. Add an example when format or judgment is hard to explain. Then inspect the result and revise one weakness at a time. Clear evidence and a review step matter more than clever prompt phrases.

    Checked

  • How do you read an LLM leaderboard or benchmark table?

Read an LLM leaderboard by checking the task, dataset, metric, model version and test conditions before the rank. Look for uncertainty and possible training-data overlap, then ask whether the test resembles your work. A one-point lead on one benchmark is evidence about that setup, not proof that a model is best for everyone.

    Checked

  • What does the OpenAI status page tell you when ChatGPT is down?

The OpenAI status page tells you whether OpenAI has acknowledged a broad incident affecting ChatGPT, APIs, Codex or another listed service. It does not test your account, browser, network, region or exact feature. Match your symptom to the named component and time, then run local checks if no matching incident appears.

    Checked

  • What is an AI token, and how do token counts affect cost?

An AI token is a small piece of text that a model reads or writes. It can be a whole short word, part of a longer word, punctuation or a space. Token counts matter because they set how much fits in a model's context window and how much an API request costs.

    Checked

  • What does ChatGPT Plus actually give you over the free plan?

Plus costs $20 a month and buys three things the free plan does not clearly give you: OpenAI's newest and most capable model, published usage allowances instead of unstated ones, and enough room to lean on ChatGPT for real work rather than occasional questions.

    Checked

  • What is a context window and why does it change what a model can do?

A context window is the amount of text a model can hold in mind at once, measured in tokens. On the OpenAI, Anthropic and Google pages this guide reads, published windows run from 200,000 tokens up to just over a million. When a conversation outgrows the window, the model starts losing the beginning, which is why long chats drift.
